PSYCHOTIC BREAKDOWN
A resident may be facing a psychiatric breakdown for many reasons
STEPS TO FOLLOW:
Call your Supervisor or Manager
keep the residence safe
Ensure the needs of the resident in crisis
Follow company procedure on crisis
Ask for crisis help by calling the crisis help line
If the crisis is uncontrollable, call 911
Maintain your cool
INCIDENTS
Incidents do occur in our homes, but staff need to be well prepared and trained the steps to take when an incident happens.
STEPS TO FOLLOW DURING AN INCIDENT:
Make sure all residents are safe
Try to prevent an incident before it escalates or before an incident escalates further
Try to contain the situation
Call 911 if the incident is beyond your control
Call your supervisor or manager
Write an incident report ASAP.
Inform your superiors.

Crisis due to medication shortage
A crisis may occur because a resident ran out of medication. Without the resident's medications, symptoms may take over the resident leading to different kinds of effects on the resident, his immediate environment, and on people around the resident.
STEPS TO FOLLOW BEFORE AND DURING:
Check on medications 7 days before it runs out and request a refill.
Call the clinic for an immediate appointment.
On the weekend, call the crisis helpline to bring the medication that ran out.
Call & email the clinic and case manager.
Make sure all residents are safe.
Try to prevent an incident before it escalates or before an incident escalates further.
Try to contain the situation.
Call 911 if the incident is beyond your control.
Call your supervisor or manager.
Reprimand to CBI if need be.
Write an incident report ASAP.
Inform your superiors.

Call 911 During an emergency.
Prepare the client's medication list and facesheet for the paramedics
Call the hospital to schedule transportation for client's return to the facility when there is nobody to pick up the client from the hospital after an emergency.
Write an incident report.
